Luso Canadian Soccer Club – Winnipeg’s Portuguese Football Home Since 1973

In this episode of the LusoCanada Podcast, Paulo Pereira travels to Winnipeg to speak with Manuel Felgueiras, longtime member and President of the General Assembly of Luso Canadian Soccer Club at the time of the conversation. Founded in 1973, Luso Canadian Soccer Club has long been a home for Portuguese football in Winnipeg. Felgueiras recalls the club’s beginnings in the basement of the Caravela Bar, its early struggles, the volunteers and leaders who helped secure its future, and the stability it enjoys today. The conversation also explores Manuel Felgueiras’s personal immigration journey from Portugal to Winnipeg, his more than four decades of involvement with the club, and the role soccer has played in bringing together the Portuguese community in Manitoba. This is a story of football, immigration, community, and the lasting legacy of one of Winnipeg’s most important Portuguese-Canadian institutions.
