Echoes of Azorean Life: Preserving the Memory of Santa Maria

The language, traditions and cultural heritage of Santa Maria in the Azores have found a new voice in English through Echoes of Azorean Life, a translation of Arsénio Chaves Puim’s work by scholar Giuseppe Formato, PhD.

Drawing on the island’s history, customs and everyday life, the book preserves a cultural legacy that generations of Azorean immigrants carried across the Atlantic, making it accessible to their descendants in Canada and beyond.

In his editorial, “An Island Carried Across the Atlantic,” Formato reflects on the importance of preserving these memories and the personal journey behind bringing this remarkable work to English-speaking readers.
