Thank you for visiting Luso-Canada!
The main objective of Luso-Canada is to create a platform for the History of the Portuguese people in Canada to be told in the first person. From the pioneers who paved the way to the current times in which community organizations struggle to survive, there is a in-between rich history that can provide valuable knowledge and perhaps inspire change…and you can be part of it.
The story continues to be told. We celebrate and promote organizations and individuals who have made a difference in each community across the country. We want Lusocanada.com to be a source of information for future generations so that our story is not forgotten.
We want to invite you to come along. You can do so by perusing through the many pages that profile individuals and organizations from Newfoundland to British Columbia. You can also help us by contributing with your stories or by connecting us with people who have a story to share. We want to WRITE HISTORY TOGETHER. Your contributions are crucial for the many sides of the story to be told.

About The Author – Paulo Pereira
Married to Judit Fustos with whom he has two children (Sofia and Miguel), Paulo Pereira was born in Barcelos on October 17, 1972. He immigrated to Canada in 1991 and settled in Toronto with his parents and two brothers.
He has worked in community media for over 20 years. He started in 1999 as a reporter for Sol Português. Later, he became Editor of Team Desportivo, Editor of Jornal da Aliança, Director of Flash News, Director of Luso-Ontario Magazine, and Editor at Correio da Manhã Canada’s newspaper.
Paulo Pereira has also been heavily involved in Luso-Canadian cultural, social, and sporting organizations as a volunteer since 1998. He is a co-founder of Associação Migrante de Barcelos where he volunteered for many years as Secretary, Sporting Director, and player and captain of Gil Vicente FC of Toronto. He also volunteered for Casa do Benfica de Toronto for close to a decade as member of the Board in roles such as Public Relations Director and Vice-President for Sports and Culture. Currently, he is the President of Project First Nations, a not-for-profit organization. In November of 2023, he was elected as a member of the Portuguese Community Council, representing the District of Toronto, which includes Ontario, Manitoba and Nunavut.
