COME ALONG AND WRITE HISTORY WITH US
Lusocanada.com aims to become a medium for anecdotal recording of our history. This means that you play an important role in the process. We invite you to come along and write history with us.
There are many studies and research projects about the Portuguese communities across Canada, each with a different focus. These scholarly documents are crucial for us to understand the dynamics of our community in Canada and how we have adapted over time. We will not ignore them. In fact, we will also highlight many of these studies as we continue to add content to the site.
Even though the scientific approach is important, our focus is on the anecdotal, on the stories people tell that carry emotion. We want to hear from you even after the facts have been laid out. For example, if you read about a specific organization and you remember a particular event or instance, please share with us. That is part of the history. That is the story we want to write, the one told by you.
Lusocanada.com is initially written in English for a couple of reasons. Firstly, because it reaches the new generation of Canadians who, for many different reasons, do not get involved in our community organizations or, if they do, cannot properly understand Portuguese. Secondly, English is more broadly spoken and read by the Portuguese across Canada. However, Portuguese will also have a space in this website. If you contribute something in Portuguese, we will leave it in Portuguese. Eventually, the site will become a true celebration of our very lives in Canada, with a mixture of two languages as we share stories.

Paulo Pereira
Paulo Pereira has worked in community media for over 20 years. He started as a reporter for Sol Portugues. Later, he became Editor of Team Desportivo, Director of Flash News, Director of Jornal da Aliança, Director of Luso-Ontario Magazine, and Editor at Correio da Manha Canada's newspaper. Paulo Pereira is also a co-founder of Associacao Migrante de Barcelos where he volunteered for many years as Secretary and Sporting Director. He also volunteered for Casa do Benfica de Toronto for close to a decade as member of the Board in roles such as Public Relations Director and Vice-President for Sports and Culture. Currently, he is the President of Project First Nations, a not-for-profit organization. In November of 2023, he was elected as a member of the Portuguese Community Council, representing the District of Toronto, which includes Ontario, Manitoba and Nunavut.
