ONE OF THE OLDEST ORGANIZATIONS IN TORONTO AND CRADLE TO MANY OTHERS

Amor da Pátria is one of the oldest Portuguese associations in Toronto.  It was also the cradle for many other organizations such as Asas do Atlantico, Graciosa CC, and Vitoria de Setubal of Toronto.  Founded by immigrants from Pico and Faial, in 1971, Amor da Pátria continues to represent these two Azorean islands.

The first party, in 1971, was a tremendous success!  Full house and a lot of enthusiasm. This involvement thrilled the Board of the time and, as a result, two folklore groups were formed: one to celebrate the traditions of Pico and the other to promote those of Faial.  Thus, this cultural component became the hallmark of an organization that has always maintained folklore to this day.  The groups have performed at various events in the Province of Ontario, and they have also traveled to the United States of America.

Theatre and carnival dances are two traditions rooted in the history of this association that, in 1987, was a founding member of the Alliance of Portuguese Clubs and Associations of Ontario (ACAPO).
